Surrender To Win

Some days literally feel like I'm holding on by a thread to what God wants me to think and do. The verse Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”.

It's words like that which I hold on to.

These words are powerful because they are the actual words of God. As Christ followers, that's the trust we have in who God is and what the Bible represents.

The Bible says that God's Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12). By faith I cling to that trust and allow the transforming and renewing (Romans 12:2) and refining fire of the Holy Spirit to flush out the thoughts that pull me away. It only takes an instant to start down a path that leads to our destruction based on something so simple as thoughts triggered from a song. Our God is bigger than that.

This world makes us believe so many lies... Every day. Our enemy doesn't take an off day. We must continue to stand our ground, unmoved, and take the offensive to fight. When we take up the Shield of Faith, that weapon is defensive. Drawing the Sword of the Spirit, that weapon is offensive. We must use both in our fight. The problem comes when we use these weapons on others instead of on our spiritual enemy. Worse yet, we sometimes even turn on ourselves. We must not believe the lies. We must fight back and fight the right enemy.

Scripture says, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12 ESV).

In order to win the battle, we must first surrender.

Say what? Surrender to win? Yes!

When we make him everything to us this means we make him our greatest priority with all humility and surrender. This is not in our nature to follow God. We must commit and sacrifice who we are deep to the core to follow him. And he knows this. That's why Jesus said "take up your cross and follow me". He knows that level of commitment is what is absolutely necessary.

Where is your cross?

Is it still up on the wall?

Hanging around your neck?

On a t-shirt somewhere?

Hidden in a drawer perhaps?

Are you afraid of it?

Do you even want to take it up?

If so... How can we live Romans 12:2 today?
