With Eyes on Eternity
Here's a thought, scripture, and prayer to guide us.
Thought:
Our adversary, the devil, is crafty and ALWAYS looks for ways to make things appear “not bad” and even seem fine enough or parallel God’s Word by using familiar language, but it’s not the way, the truth, and the life. Think about it… our enemy has spent thousands and thousands of years perfecting how to influence us and convince us away from God by the little things that don’t seem like they matter. They do. So many people, so many Christians, don’t see we are in a spiritual battle and just go on their daily lives blinded or oblivious or simply don’t care. Jesus was clear, if you’re not for me, you’re against me (Matthew 12:30). We shouldn’t go through life trying to fit things of this world, or even our own desires, into our way of living if we have chosen to surrender and live for Christ.
“The goal is to think about, and put into practice, the idea of how Jesus would live my life if he were I.” -Dallas Willard
What are we doing in our life that is wasting our time, distracting us, capturing our attention throughout the day, and taking us away from fully living for Christ? What do we need to do to give that up and focus more on God’s eternal mission so we can prepare ourselves, cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus, and intentionally win more souls to Christ because of how we live?
Scripture:
"So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.
Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites.
But there’s far more to life for us. We’re citizens of high heaven! We’re waiting the arrival of the Savior, the Master, Jesus Christ, who will transform our earthy bodies into glorious bodies like his own. He’ll make us beautiful and whole with the same powerful skill by which he is putting everything as it should be, under and around him." Philippians 3:15-21 MSG
Prayer:
Father God help us know the answers and do it without getting distracted or excuse how we assimilate into the world. Jesus you came here to win souls, set a different standard of living, and we want to do that too. Help us do that and stay focused on your mission. In Jesus name amen!!
