What’s Your Eye On

Life can sometimes be confusing, painful, frustrating, empty, and alone.

The Psalmist David experienced all of these same feelings that we do. David was known as a man after God’s own heart. In Psalm 32 he shared some intimate relational practices between God and us when we’re navigating this puzzling thing called life.

6 Therefore let everyone who is faithful pray to you immediately. When great floodwaters come, they will not reach him. 7 You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance. 8 I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.” Psalms‬ ‭32:6-8‬ ‭CSB‬‬

What Does This Passage Teach Us?
V6 God wants us to pray to him immediately when we need him to come to our rescue. He wants us to turn to him faithfully each time. He wants us to be faithful and turn to him. He wants us faithful. He wants us to turn to him. He wants both. He knows this is for our good.

V7 God is our hiding place. He wants us to turn to him for protection and seek him for our joy. He wants us to rejoice audibly to proclaim who he is.

V8 God shows us where he wants us to go and gives us the counsel we need to get there. (This happens through consistent daily prayer.)

I love the part in verse 8 where David says “with my eye on you”. I think that sums up this passage perfectly. God is keeping his eye on you. Keep your eye on God.

When we keep our eye on God, because he is faithfully keeping his eye on us, we can see everything clearly and know who we are, where we’re to go in life, and how we are to navigate getting there. Along the way, David says God will protect us from trouble.

Are you keeping your eye on God?
