How To Fix Our Thoughts

Do you ever think about your thoughts? I think it is in our best interest to do that and I'm not alone.

The Holy Spirit inspired apostle Paul to write about it in Philippians. He warns us to not just think and act or react. We must first think and then respond or act based on our qualified thought. What does that mean? Before we grant a thought worthy enough to remain in our minds or respond to someone about something, we use the Philippians 4:8 scripture to be the litmus test to our thoughts.

What are we going to think about or say to someone? Well if it's true, pure, lovely, noble, excellent, praiseworthy, then we can think and say it. If it does not fit into that bracket, then we turn it over to God to submit to Christ because that thought is not what we should be thinking. It's not Godly or becoming of a Christ follower.

Because we have the Holy Spirit indwelling within us, it doesn't take long to know how our thoughts measure up.

We know. God's Spirit reveals it to us in an instant. We have that feeling that what we're thinking is probably not the best to continue down that road.

In fact, before we even think what we're going to think, God already knows. So it's up to us to capture our thoughts and put them into submission to Christ. This is a good habit to practice everyday.

Ok now of course this doesn't mean that we're not going to slip up or overreact because we sure will, I know I do, BUT it means that we have grace to think righteously each time a thought pops into our head and have the opportunity to surrender it to God.

TRUTH

"Finally, brothers [and sisters], whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:8 ESV
