You Don’t Have to Hit Pause on Your Life with God
Most of us see vacation as a break from everything. Work. Schedules. Diet. Fitness. Even our rhythms with God. But here’s what I’ve learned after being away from home for two weeks, one for a seminar on the Book of Revelation and one for a family thing: we don’t have to sacrifice presence for rest.
Just because we’re away doesn’t mean we have to disconnect from what matters most. In fact, I think it’s the opposite.
Jesus didn’t compartmentalize life. He lived with the Father in every moment—on the mountainside, in a boat, around a fire. Luke wrote “He often withdrew to deserted places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). His routine was founded on his regular life rhythm.
And that’s the shift.
Vacation or travel doesn’t have to mean disruption—it can mean adaptation.
We carry the Kingdom of God with us. We can bring the rhythms that keep us anchored wherever we go. Instead of tossing routines out the window simply because we’re not at home, we strive to rework them for the road.
That’s what I’ve been doing.
It’s not perfect. It’s not polished. It’s real.
My mornings still look like time in God’s Word, movement for my body, and presence with the people I love.
It’s slower and looks different, but it’s not off. My rhythm gets adapted each day so I’m not off.
So what if we stopped viewing time away as an escape, a complete abandonment or excuse to forgo what anchors our soul, and started seeing it as an invitation to be flexible and adapt? I think it’s a chance to meet Jesus in new places— to experience life with God wherever we are— because he’s there too.
Today, ask yourself:
What routines do I need to carry with me—not to perform, but to stay present with God?
Where have I disconnected, when God might just be waiting to meet me on the move?
My encouragement to you is, we don’t need to hit pause on your faith, fitness, or fuel on any day or anywhere. We just need to hit adapt.
“Remain in me, and I in you.” —Jesus (John 15:4)
Let’s keep walking with Jesus—wherever we go.
Prayer:
Father- Help us do all that in Jesus name.
Amen!
